Round the Island Race 2019
This year’s Round the Island saw an early start for the Watchkeepers with the watch opening at 0600 on Saturday 29th June. Unlike last year, when we had 11 incidents – all boats passed the Needles without incident.
We had our usual safety cover at the Lighthouse, Yarmouth ALB, Lymington and Mudeford ILB and a host of spectator boats and the indefatigable potter Angie.
1138 boats started and 1024 passed the Elbow buoy but conditions were poor with little wind and a change in tide. Only 290 finished within the time. Fastest was the 100ft multihull Actual Leader in 7hours 33 minutes 36seconds.
