Web Cameras Commissioned
The station was honoured by a visit from the High Sheriff when he commissioned the new web cameras sited above The Needles.
The cameras were donated by Vision-Link Ltd and data connection charges are donated by Needles Pleasure Cruises.
One camera overlooks the channel between the lighthouse and bridge buoy and will provide real time information to mariners regarding sea state at the notorious Needles Channel.
The second camera will overlook Scratchell’s Bay allowing remote monitoring of the beach.
The cameras run on the 4G network and the public have access via the web, Google Earth and Twitter.
Currently the views are refreshed every 30 minutes while the system beds in, but will refresh every 5 minutes.
Station Manager Tony Stables said “Many thanks to the High Sheriff for his visit and the commissioning of these cameras, allowing us to provide greater safety to mariners and immense thanks to Vision-Link for the donation of the cameras and to Peter Lemonius of Needles Pleasure Cruises for donating the annual running costs.”
